It’s that time of year again! Final exams are over, days are getting longer and warmer and red and white flowers are popping up all over campus. Convocation is right around the corner and a new group of students will transition into the large family that is the community of McGill alumni. Convocation is probably the single most exciting time in the life of a university student. It’s the end of a chapter filled with successes and disappointments, laughter and tears and many hours of hard work. A world of opportunities awaits, each more appealing than the other.
Convocation is an equally exciting time for parents! A parent’s son or daughter being accepted to McGill is an achievement to be proud of. A parent’s son or daughter graduating from McGill is an even bigger source of pride. Graduating from McGill is a huge milestone that deserves to be celebrated and it is for this exact reason that thousands of parents flock to campus every Spring.
This year, convocation coincides with the Montreal Formula 1 Grand Prix and we expect it will be difficult for families of students who have ceremonies towards the end of the week to find an available and affordable hotel room. It is for this very reason that McGill has made a number of its residences available for families during convocation week. If you haven’t already booked your accommodation for your visit to Montreal and are interested in staying at one of our residence, click here.
Congratulations to all parents and to the Class of 2012!
The McGill Alumni Association will be serving refreshments after each ceremony. Come find us, we look forward to meeting you! And don’t forget to stay in touch – the Alumni Association has many services that you can benefit from as a grad!
