Shalom Bard has been named the new Resident Conductor of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and the new Music Director of the Toronto Youth Symphony Orchestra. The nominations are part of the TSO’s first Emerging Artists Programme, which also selected an affiliate composer.
The TSO said of these selections: “Both highly sought-after positions, these two-year residencies represent an important investment in the Canadian arts community by fostering the development of artists and leaders.”
Bard was recently the resident conductor of the Symphony of Nova Scotia. He plays the clarinet and performed with the TSO in 1999, but switched to conducting four years ago.
