The Celebrating Students series provides a snapshot of McGill Mastercard Student Sponsorship recipients. The Student Sponsorship Program was launched in 1997 to give students who are involved with special campus groups or clubs an opportunity to apply for additional funding for projects carried out by their groups.
Today, the Alumni Association features The McGill Choral Society:
The McGill Choral Society (MCS) is one of the largest student groups on McGill campus. We are dedicated to providing music-lovers with a chance to create beautiful music together. With its “No Audition” policy, the MCS welcomes singers of all levels with open arms, with one requirement: a strong interest in singing and learning music. We bring together amateur singers from all over Montreal, and from all academic disciplines ranging from Arts to Engineering, and from Education to Medicine and Chemistry.
Currently, MCS has over 160 members, and we perform to audiences of 500-1,000 people at our beautiful venue, l’Église Saint-Enfant-Jésus. At our semi-annual concerts, the choir is accompanied by a small orchestra and hired professional soloists. Each year, we perform two major choral works: one in our Fall concert at the end of November, and another in our Spring concert.

Last November, we performed Handel’s Messiah and seasonal music. At our April concert, we performed Mozart’s Coronation Mass, and finished energetically with excerpts from the musicals, Jesus Christ Superstar and Mamma Mia!
Finally, our concerts would not have been possible without the generous donations and support from outside of the choir. On behalf of all of our members and student executives, I would like to thank the McGill Alumni Association Student Sponsorship Program for allowing us to bring people together through music!
