Geoff Martin, MMus’94, PhD’01, was recently profiled by IEEE Spectrum, a magazine that covers science, technology and engineering.
Martin, a native of Newfoundland, is well known for his work at Bang & Olufsen, Denmark’s internationally renowned manufacturer of audio and visual equipment. As the article says, he is the company’s ears, working alongside engineers and designers to ensure that everything they make sounds exceptionally good. His official title is tonmeister, a German word describing someone with expertise in music and engineering.
Martin’s interest in music and sound dates to his childhood. He began working at Bang & Olufsen in 2002, on the recommendation of Søren Bech, an adjunct professor at McGill.
