Mike Babcock, BEd’86, will coach Canada’s men’s Olympic hockey team at the Winter Games in Sochi, Russia next February.
Babcock – who played defence for the McGill Redmen from 1984-87 – led Team Canada to gold in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, B.C. As bench boss of the Detroit Red Wings, he guided the team to a Stanley Cup victory in 2008.
He is the only coach to earn championship rings from five different major levels of hockey, including as well the 2004 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships.
Babcock’s good luck charm, famously, is a McGill tie.
