SeedStories: Healthy Run for Healthy Gums

Fast on the heels of McGill Dentistry’s Annual Run for Outreach, which was held this past Sunday, September 21, the final tally is in! The annual event is about much more than race results, however; it’s about helping vulnerable populations in Montreal who do not have access to basic dental treatment. It’s a cause worthy of a healthy smile, as well as a rapid running stride.

SeedStories: School’s out for summer

In the summer, education might be the last thing on your mind, but the “lazy days” of summer are also a great time to reflect on the past academic year. Students enjoying summer break from elementary school can take a moment to recall some meaningful times in their past school year, such as those provided through the Seeds of Change program. Through Seeds of Change, the Social Equity and Diversity Education (SEDE) Offices’ Homework Zone had its second successful year mentoring elementary school students in underprivileged neighbourhoods.

SeedStories: Our lucky winner has a trip of a lifetime

Sarah Boucher, who graduated in 2012 with a BSc, majoring in Biology, was the lucky ‘OMG! Win a free trip!’ grand prize winner from our 2012 Convocation Contest. She won a $1,500 travel voucher, and used it towards a trip of the Western US. Sarah is currently doing her Master of Teaching in Elementary and Secondary Education at the University of Toronto. On November 16, 2012, the 12th Annual CASCO Dance & Fashion Show was held at Montreal’s L’Astral Theatre. The show is an event that students look forward to all semester, and this year’s edition certainly exceeded their expectations. From the comedic MCs to the enthusiastic performances enjoyed by the audience, all of the elements came together perfectly to create a wonderful evening of entertainment and charity.

When I first got an offer to join President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign, I was both excited and anxious. Although I was a fanatical viewer of The West Wing and had made a number of class announcements in Leacock 132 during my student politician days, I didn’t know what to expect. My mind shifted through the possibilities. Would I be writing speeches? Would I be answering questions about the opponent’s latest gaffe in an MSNBC interview? Maybe I could help clean the Lincoln Bedroom.
