Sunday, Oct 21, saw hundreds of runners and walkers turn out for the Tour des Trois Sommets Brébeuf, a twisty-turny trail run over hill and vale for distances ranging from five to 40 kilometres. A fair number of these runners were decked out in EWB’s signature bright orange tech shirts.

We are happy to announce a new Seeds of Change project! The Faculty of Dentistry’s Outreach Program has joined our roster of worthwhile projects. The Outreach Program runs a mobile clinic that travels out to local communities to provide free dental care to patients who normally wouldn’t be able to afford treatment.

We’ve reached our goal – Class Action 2011 has raised $13,000! That amount pays for the cost of the mobile water kiosk that dispenses purified municipal water, which the Office of Sustainability so nicely purchased for us even before all the funds were raised. That way we could have it in time for Convocation.

Gifts come in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes, they even come in the form of an iconic part of Canadian culture. One of the projects at Seeds of Change, the Kibale Health and Conservation Project in Uganda, receives a donation of a different kind: tuques made in Vancouver, B.C. They are hand-knitted by Edith Leroy, whose nephew, McGill Anthropology Professor Colin Chapman, co-founded the Kibale Project six years ago.

It may be summertime, when the textbooks and study notes are packed away, but it doesn’t mean learning necessarily takes a break. Some McGill students are continuing their education through the Faculty of Arts Internships program – 83 lucky students, to be exact. This summer’s group of Internship Awards winners are going to gain valuable work experience in their fields of study around the world, from Guadalajara to Geneva, to Phnom Penh and Nairobi.
